Find out More HERE Joseph Prine III"Through my service in the United States Marine Corps and my life in rural Mississippi, I have known customs and values that are largely not reflected in the current contemporary atmosphere. I look back to these traditions and those of the old masters to initiate in the conversations they have started; I seek to expand on them to reflect the current climate of the world. The world I witness daily is a vessel of contemporary visions that spring forth from convention. Never forgetting the old masters, in my paintings I display my inner battles with self, mental health, and the processing of past experiences. In my work, I use myself and my environment as symbols of the struggles of childhood as it relates to adulthood. In this exhibition of internal struggle, I seek to demonstrate the difficulties I face as a hunter in conjunction with the experience and fallout that comes with the loss of human life. My first-hand experiences with death, love, hatred, and survivor’s guilt are the driving force behind all things I make. I believe that my southern rural lifestyle, military service, and past traumas make my work unique in its context. I seek to tap into emotions that we all feel, with subjects that reflect who I am and where I come from."
